Monkey Man is a 2024 action
thriller directed and co-produced by Dev Patel in his directorial debut. He
also co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee. The plot
unfolds in a forest village in India, where a young man named Kid lives with
his mother Neela. Inspired by tales of Hanuman, the iconic symbol of strength
and courage, Kid’s life turns dark when ruthless spiritual guru Baba Shakti
sends the corrupt police chief Rana Singh to force the villagers out and
acquire their land. Tragedy strikes as the village is massacred, leaving Neela
dead and Kid’s hands burned and scarred. Years later, Kid earns a living as a
monkey-masked fighter at Tiger’s Temple, an underground boxing club. His
ultimate goal? To exact revenge on Baba Shakti, now an influential political
figure, and Rana, who frequents the luxury brothel run by Queenie Kapoor. Kid’s
journey is one of resilience, vengeance, and survival in a world of corruption
and brutality.
